1.                  DOC Updates (Benson):

·        Identified the new legislative representatives for DOC.

·        Discussed the status of the current bonding projects

·        New initiative for the upcoming session relates to offender re-entry.

2.                  Firearms Eligibility (Keapproth):

Union feels that employees charged with crimes should not be restricted from firearm posts until the legal process is completed.  Policy 103.130 states that employees charged in a criminal investigation are restricted from performing firearm related duties.  Also, union would like clarification on bidding rights during the restriction phase.

DOC prefers to error on the side of caution.  Since monetary benefits are not withheld, there is no negative impact on the employee.  Policy states that a “restricted” employee will not be awarded a bid nor assigned to a firearm position.  Per Benson, there will be no change to the current practice and policy.

3.                  Leather Duty Belts (Evans)

The nylon belts are not holding up.  The Union would like a leather option sold by Uniforms Unlimited.

This issue will be placed on the Uniform Committee agenda.  The next committee meeting is scheduled for January 3, 2007 @9am in Central Office.

4.                  STS/ICWC Clothing Allowance (Henderson)

Crew leaders wear personal clothing and DOC provides the shoes and personal protective equipment (chaps, helmet, gloves, etc.).  The crew leaders would prefer the annual clothing allowance.

Bill Guelker prefers that uniforms not be worn in the community.   The STS and ICWC projects are self-supporting and the budgets aren’t adequate to cover additional expenditures at this time.

5.                  No Call/No Show Policy Revisions (Henderson)

Union is concerned that the policy isn’t enforced consistently throughout the department.   Officers are sanctioned more often than non-uniform staff.

The policy applies to all non-exempt staff.

6.                  Good News Items:

5.                  Rumor Control:

       None
